Year 4

Unit 3 – Pitch

Activity 1 – The Treble Clef

Students will revise the treble clef and will understand that this clef is used by high pitched instruments. They will make association to instruments that use this clef.


Activity 2 – The Bass Clef

Students will be introduced to the bass clef and will understand that this clef is used by low pitched instruments. They will make associations to instruments that use this clef.


Activity 3 – Interval of a second (2nd)

Students will be introduced to the concept of intervals. They will learn to aurally and visually recognise the interval of a 2nd both ascending motion (one step above) and descending motion (one step below). It is suggested that these are played on the xylophone and repeated on the recorder. The children should be encouraged to sing these intervals.


Activity 4 – Interval of a third (3rd)

The students will learn to aurally and visually recognise the interval of a 3rd both ascending motion (skippling one note above) and descending motion (skipping one note below). It is suggested that these are played on the xylophone and repeated on the recorder. The children should be encouraged to sing these intervals.
