Unit 9 – Listening and Apprasing

Activity 1 – Listen to the music

The teacher guides the students to start listening attentively to music. Reference is made to various body sounds, mainly stamping, slapping, clapping and snapping. Students are encouraged to use percussion instruments and listen to the tracks attentively. The teacher discusses with the students the different sound qualities associated with the different instruments.

In this unit students revise the concepts of beating and rhythm. Reference should be made to preceding topics. The correct handling and use of Percussion instruments enhances the aim of listening. Students listen to music everywhere and/or any time. The use of percussion will help them listen to and concentrate on what is being played.

Keep the pulse by means of body percussion. You can also imitate the sounds with percussion instruments.
