Unit 5 – Percussion Instruments
Activity 1 – Listen and Colour
The teacher introduces percussion instruments to the students. S/he then plays each instrument slowly to the students with reference to pitched and unpitched percussion instruments. Students are encouraged to play the instruments in groups and individually. They are also encouraged to improvise simple rhythms. Students then colour the given handouts. Reference is made to instruments in class, YouTube clips and other online sources.
Activity 2 – Follow and Imitate
The following instruments are displayed, one by one:

The teacher shows how to play percussion instruments by playing them slowly in front of the students. Reference is made to soft and loud sounds produced by these different percussion instruments. Students are encouraged to play the instruments by following the given handout that shows how to grip the instrument and play it.
